It’s hard to believe we’re about to start our 10th year

What started out as practice to handle long lenses has morphed into a beast all it’s own.

I started shooting football games to get practice using my 500mm lens. It’s not something you just pick up and use. I was preparing for a photoshoot in Yellowstone NP the following February. So I thought shooting football would be a good idea. Never in my wildest imagination that I would be covering several different sports and shooting all school year.

It’s been more fun than I could have imagined and I’ve forged great friendships that I would never had made without my camera. It’s been an amazing ride and I’m ready for this school year to get started. It’s been a long summer waiting for something to do.

Our gallery software (Gallery 3) has been discontinued and we’re moving to alternate software (piwigo.org). So please bear with us while we make the transition. We don’t have all the pricing/basket options we had with the previous software, but we believe the new software is easier to navigate and has a more streamlined look. Please let us know what you think!  We’re using it at our professional sports website.  http://pro.kcsports.net

It’s hard to believe this school year is almost over. Marty and I have had a tremendous amount of fun hanging with the kids, their parents, and their coaches. We are truly sorry to see our seniors leaving and we will miss them. We hope they’re able to make the most of their education, careers and lives. Whatever we have to offer, or if there is anything we can do to help, we will make ourselves available.

Mostly importantly for us. Don’t forget to drop by aMWx-625641nd see us. We’ll be at every game next year we can make!

Now all this is based on an optimistic guess that Jeff’s shoulder will recover. Dr’s are guessing it’s a minor tear and a cortisone shot will alleviate the pain. It’s all up in the air right now.

The seniors have graduated and in a few more days even the sports in which they still compete will be over. It’s a bittersweet thing to see “our” graduates move on. But that is the way of life. We wish them nothing but the best and hope they will come back from time to time to see us!

For those that haven’t heard, the Lady Jays softball team asked me to throw out the first pitch at their home opener. It’s always nice to be appreciated. I never know how to quite handle the attention. I like hanging out around the periphery and getting the pictures, and I try not to get noticed. So this was something different for me.

I’d like to thank the team for the honor and the coaches for their kind comments about me.

We hope we add something to the experience for the kids.  This is something tangible that says we do.

Marty’s got his stories, Dan has his and I have mine.  We’re often asked what equipment we use.  The choice of equipment is a very personal choice. I’m sure we all have different reasons as to why.  Marty and I chose Canon, Dan uses Nikon.  Both systems are very good and have lots of options.  Yes, we like to brag on the systems we use, but most of it is friendly banter to torque the other photographers around us. My best advice is buy the best equipment that works for you. Most of gear in my list has been purchased for my nature photography (http://www.jbillings.net). It just happens the the same gear works well for sports photography. Sort of 2 birds with one stone so to speak.
